One day I'll be an expert at capturing books

...in -30 conditions. I'm not quite there yet. I had to take a couple runs at this shot. I had to clear a little snow off the railing. But here you go: a look at some recent purchases, all of which are mighty fine.

Bite Down Little Whisper by Don Domanski.

Rue the Day by Tanis MacDonald.

Burying the Wren by Deryn Rees-Jones.

The Once and Future World by J.B. MacKinnon.

Not pictured is Lynn Coady's Hellgoing. I bought the ebook, which I regret now. The collection of stories is excellent and I really wish I had a copy on my shelf.

I need the Domanski!

You certainly do! We all need the Domanski!

And the rest of them, too!

At least a couple of them.
Burying the Wren looks interesting. I don't read enough work by poets outside Canada.

In the comments under someone's status on Facebook, a poet I admire recommended Burying the Wren, so I ordered it that instant and it was a very good buy. The poem "Dogwoman," for one, is outstanding.

-30! I send this note from Berkeley, where it is bright and warm. (My son is spending a term here, glad for the respite from Edmonton...) Domanski is a terrific writer. I'm looking forward to his book.

Nice! My first Berkeley experience! I like to think being written to is a way of being there. Enjoy the warmth and your visit!
