...to me, I see that "Night on an Old Trade Route," a vocal work by composer Jim Hiscott, commissioned by the Flin Flon Community Choir, was based on a poem by me, a poem that later appeared in my book More Than Three Feet of Ice. Cool. I'd given permission, but never did hear what came of it.

How wonderful...but also how strange!
(They didn't invite you to the premiere?!?)
Any chance of finding an audio snippet on-line?
I just googled around and found only this pdf newsletter from the Manitoba Choral Association where the rehearsal of it in October 2006 is mentioned on page 15 and it's described as "a challenging work." I'm guessing it was performed that fall. Who knows, we've been out of town so much these past few years and that fall was no exception. Sometimes we're just not that easy to contact. Often I hear about local events well after they've happened. And I guess there are things I don't hear about at all. Bah. My own fault, really.
That's very...gracious of you.
You should contact Hiscott and ask for a copy of the score. (The ephemera! Don't forget the ephemera!)
Also, did you know that you might be able to become a SOCAN member based on your contribution (and get $, potentially)?
David Raphael Scott alerted me to this possibility when our piece was complete.
Oh, and did I offer my congratulations? (Congratulations!)
Thanks, A!
Oh right, the ephemera, I must remember the ephemera... Were it not for you and H, I'd forget and toddle on.
out of curiosity, I googled myself and found not one but two book reviews I'd written, printed in their entirety WITHOUT my permission or not even a 'Hi how are you"!!! ... and these were from newspapers not published online... sheesh... and republished on publishing house websites!!!
and I only checked out a few google pages
not sure what to make of this...
congrats on your achievement anyway
Thanks, sms!
That poem occupies page 65 of the "Saskatchewan Literature Course Package" (produced under licence from Access Copyright, of course) my students have to buy. We'll try to hum it.

Awwww, I never got to sing in your class Gerry. What a rip.
Too cool! I didn't know that. And 65, the year I was born. You just made my day, Gerry!
Poor Rhett...
