Memorizing poetry

...is part of the school curriculum in Russia. The last paragraph makes me want to grab a candle and head up to the attic.

Each year, from Grades 9 to 12, we had to memorize at least one poem.

The Highway Man comes riding, riding, riding
The Highway Man comes riding up to the old inn door

will never leave my brain.

Cool. I can't remember if we had to memorize anything. :) While I have no trouble remembering things for exams, I really have to work at memorizing poems. That means re-reading them more than occasionally. H, on the other hand, can recite poems from childhood as well as poems that I studied for courses. Mind you, he's a walking telephone directory and GPS as well, so it comes as no surprise. Everything sticks in his head. Mine must have a teflon coating...

LOL! Be careful with that teflon. There are health hazards associated with it, particularly if scratched!

Well that explains everything.
