It's August and the railing

...needs paint. But first, here's a couple additions to my collection. I hope to dig into them this month.

Why Beauty Is Truth: A History of Symmetry by Ian Stewart.

Self Comes to Mind: Constructing the Conscious Brain by Antonio Damasio.

I always put reading books first on my To Do lists.

Good to hear! That's where they should be. To heck with the railing!

Been meaning to read the symmetry book for too long. Damasio's is great.

I imagine Damasio's is right up your alley, going by what I see in your latest post re the focus of your thesis.

I think I'll start with Stewart's book. It will put my new progressive lenses to the test.

Am putting both on hold at the library; especially love the sound of 'Self Comes to Mind'. (Have you read Norman Doidge -- 'The Brain that Changes Itself'?

Brenda Schmidt said...

No I haven't. I will google it right now. Thanks!

The Doidge book is great.

I'll have to read the book. I googled it and realized I saw a documentary on The Nature of Things that's based on the book. I was quite taken with the show.

In the first chapter Damasio points to The Mystery of Consciousness by John Searle. Looks like another must-read.
