Because of Anne

...Simpson's upcoming essay for Canada Reads Poetry (which as it happens was just posted today), I added Nox by Anne Carson to cart (I meant to order it last year but somehow forgot) when I was ordering To the Edge of the Sea by Anne McDonald, a just-released novel that I've been looking forward to for quite some time. Both books came in the mail today.

Is by Anne Simpson arrived last week. In the acknowledgements of Is I found Anne McDonald's name.

And there's another Anne I'd urge on you: Anne Szumigalski's A Peeled Wand.

Thanks! How did that one get by me? I see it's a selected. How does it compare to On Glassy Wings: Poems New and Selected? I have that one and a number of other Szumigalski collections.

Damn! You're an Anne ahead of me already!

Ha! I'll have to post my new other-than-Anne books, too. I bought a whole pile. Still waiting on a few.

The nice thing about the new Anne is that it's arranged thematically instead of chronologically. Which brings it down to the unit of the poem instead of the unit of the book, if that makes any sense. But I can't compare it to the other books, not having read them...

Hm. Well I might have to buy it to see if I agree that it's a nice thing. One can never have too much Anne!

Annes('s) in the air. My bookseller called yesterday to say my copy of IS has arrived.
Can't wait!

Ha! Cool!

I look forward to sitting down with it. And the others. That's the trouble, if one can call it trouble. I buy a bunch of books and have no system when it comes to deciding a reading order. And sometimes books get shuffled about and misplaced when I'm trying to get something done. That's never good.
