My poems went up in smoke

...and then they were bulldozed. On Friday fire destroyed a couple businesses on Main Street in Flin Flon, including one that carried my books. We drove by it yesterday. It looked as if a monster had chewed the corner off the street. My poems can be found somewhere in the rubble, wet and stinking of smoke. Today it's raining on top of it all.

Fire is the most devastating thing. My mom and dad almost lost the farm--barn, house, bins, etc.-- one very dry year when the grain truck backfired and the stubble caught on fire. The field was on the home quarter and the only thing that stopped the fire was a diagonal swatch of ploughed soil where they had put the underground phone lines the month before.

Oh no! Please don't tell me a book store died. I mean, it is a terrible loss no matter what, but books...

probably that otter started the fire.
i wouldn't take it personally though, he is probably just not a fan of the arts...

I prefer to think your poems have been dispersed into the sky. Eventually they will make their way along the winds to everywhere. Even way down here.

Tracy, I agree. Fire is devastating. I feel badly for the owners.

Anita, the place that carried my books was more of a gift shop with a fair selection of books. It was a lovely store. A large restaurant was destroyed as well. It's incredible how the loss of buildings changes the face of a familiar street.

Oh no, the otter made its way here... :)

That's a lovely thought, Pete.
