For the first time in a decade

...I missed the Saskatchewan Writers' Guild fall conference. And when I say missed, I mean I missed out. However, thanks to Tracy and her blackberry, I was kind of there. Digitized. In snippets. It's been fun.

For me the highlight of the conference is the open mic. It's happening tonight. Gerry makes it new every year and his intros are always hilarious. I never fail to take the opportunity to read and test new work on the audience. Last year I read my pheasant sonnet, H manning the computer to show the accompanying video, which I'd initially posted on youtube.

I had planned to read an anecdotal piece at this year's open mic. Seriously. Since I'm not there, I thought I'd post it here.

And it's under three minutes! Gerry would've been proud.

Nice! I'm glad you posted it here because, being the test(....) bruiser that I am, I had to sit at the back of the room, and never would've seen the video otherwise. Bruce Rice did a poem called "I'm tired" and it was interactive, only we couldn't see whether he was on the floor (apparently not), whether he'd walked out, or what, exactly was going on.

We missed you!!

Ha! Thank you for not completing that particular word here as the poor blog would've been spammed to death. :)

We missed you!!

I must ask Bruce what he was doing...

That piece would have been a hit at the open mic, Brenda. Your intro might have gone something like this: She heard the word "dripping" and grabbed the neck of her bag: BRENDA SCHMIDT.

HA! That's terrible!!!

I hear the open mic was a hit yet again. Hats off to you, Gerry.

While I'm here, testing the comments...can you believe that my pheasant wasn't included in Jailbreaks: 99 Canadian Sonnets? Honestly.

No, but I'm certain it will be added to "99 Cocktails For a Long Winter Night"
