In praise

...of melancholy. What a lovely, thoughtful essay.

I guess I must make a place for melancholy at the second annual A-Muse party in March.

Perhaps this year's theme will be inspired by Ms. Melancholy.

Ha! Perfect. And in honour of Ms. Melancholy maybe you can serve some prosciutto wrapped melonbally...

Very clever! I'll add melonbally's to the appetizer list!

I'm very excited about the party! Would you like us to bring the cake? Wouldn't want to cause another cake run. Yes, we'll supply a melancholy cake. Hm. I'll have to give that some thought. And we'll ask James for melancholy wine suggestions. In "Ode to Melancholy" Keats speaks of ruby grape, so I guess the wine should be red. "And feed deep, deep upon her peerless eyes" must be a fancy way of saying we should pig out on crackers topped with stuffed olives. I'm thinking Paulin's Peerless Soda Crackers, of course, which is fitting since Robert Kroetsch will be at Talking Fresh and those Peerless crackers make an appearance on this page of Kroetsch's Completed Field Notes. Alas, Peerless crackers are no more. Now they are Premium. No longer Paulin's. Looks like Christie took over. Bah. I suppose we could call them post-Peerless. That, too, would be fitting.

What fun! Yes, I'll leave the cake up to you this year; I'm more of an appetizer kinda gal.

We'll serve Bloody Jack's and maybe some Pollack. We'll also let everyone know about the party_By Word of Mouth_.

And maybe I'll make some crisp D'anise butter cookies.

I don't know how we're going to top this next year!

Oh, I could also have some invites made on post-it notes.

Ha! Brilliant!

Ok. I'll take care of the cake. Hm. Maybe I'll go with a pound cake...

it's so depressing reading about a party I'm not invited to...

ha! I'm sure Tracy will send you a post-it. Talking Fresh is so much fun. I haven't missed one yet. The A-Muse party winds things up perfectly. And Tracy sure knows how to put on a spread. The food was divine.
