...on Thursday night by Sylvia Legris and Daniel Scott Tysdal were excellent. I got the rust out of my reading voice that evening as Dan had some members of the audience, including myself, participate in the reading of his poem "Experiment in Form." It worked really well. There were a number of surprises that evening, including the fabulous cookies Sylvia had baked for the event. I took a cookie back to the hotel, intending to photograph it and post it here, but due to my clumsiness it suffered a fracture in transit. Ugh. The only thing left to do was eat it. Also, Sylvia surprised me with two lovely moleskines. One has nifty memo pockets. The other is a Japanese album with zigzag folded pages. Very cool. I opened them both this morning and already have plans for them.
After the reading we raced over to La Bodega where we had a dinner engagement. One of the highlights of the dinner was meeting and chatting with Amy Snider, a photographer from Regina, whose work is currently on display at La Bodega.
Friday was a fun day. In the afternoon I rehearsed my face-off poem at CBC. Because my poem plays with a certain song, we all ended up in CBC's vinyl room to pull out the music and have a listen. I'm thrilled with the music Lee Kozak created for my poem.
After the rehearsal, we met a mentor for dinner. Then we headed back to CBC for the face-off. The place was packed with people. It was a record turnout. All the poets gave great performances. I don't know if I'm allowed to say who won, but wow, it was a fantastic poem and a fantastic performance. Be sure to keep an eye out for the broadcast date and time. Hats off to Kelley Jo Burke and everyone at CBC who had a hand in making it a great event.

I have a hankering for giant chocolate cookies...I think it will be a baking day today.

It was well worth the drive, Ariel. My bursting into song sounds more like something bursting, but hey, it was fun. Oh ya, every person who walked in the door was handed nummy chocolates. I forgot to save a wrapper. Argh. It would be nice to track down more of those chocolates.
Sounds like fun. I am jealous of the great events that are going on in Regina. Calgary is the suxx0rs. However, I will prematurely announce that I am starting a reading series here in Calgary, but that's all I better say for now.
If anyones coming to Calgary, let me know.

I have a comfy spare bed for you and H (I'm having a moment of panic where I'm positive it's H, but now I'm worried it's another letter! Ah!) and you could snuggle JD! Even though he's not a snuggly cat. :)

And I know better than to snuggle a nonsnuggly cat. Does JD sleep on the spare bed by any chance? If so, does he mind if company sleeps on his bed? I'd hate to get a paw in the beak in the middle of the night.
Usually he just walks on your hair if he wants somethings, is annoyed or just wants to be annoying. Luckily I am not easy to wake up, but he drives Leah crazy. But, he likes to show off for company so he would put on a nice show for you, for sure.
