We made it home

...safely last night. The Hanson Lake Road is beautiful at night, but eerie. Add snow and ice and it can be a nightmare. I did my best to distract myself. For example, as I was eating some cold vegetarian pizza, I eyed the CD player and told H it would be nice if when I hit Eject a tray would pop out on which I'd plop a slice of pizza. Instead of hitting Play, I'd press Heat. The pizza would slide in and sit on the engine for a minute and then pop back out, nice and warm.

After that I decided I'd try to capture the night. H was busy driving, so I was on my own with the camera settings. This is a curve sign.

And today I took a pic of the new books that I brought back from Saskatoon.

I actually won the bottom two on Sunday at the Saskatchewan Book Awards 14th Annual Shortlist Reading Brunch. The event was excellent, as were the readers. I remembered to take Jennifer Still's book along from home to have it signed, but I neglected to pack Marie Elyse St. George's and a couple others. Argh. I like my books signed.

I am the opposite. I suppose I like it when my friends have a book and they sign it for me--it's more personal. But, just a random person, I don't really care. I think out of the four years of highschool I only bothered to get my year book signed one year by more than two friends.

I guess, again in regards to my memory, there are things I want to remember and other things... I just don't care about.

People like me are the reason there are book signings. I like to have a moment with the author. Unless asked, I don't give more than my first name and I don't say I'm a writer or anything like that. Mostly it's an opportunity to pass along a few good words about their reading or their previous work or the book in hand if I happened to read it already. If I have something good to say, I take the opportunity to say it.

Note: I removed the middle picture this morning. It was way too bright, making the post a nightmare to look at. I couldn't stand it anymore.

Me meeting Thomas King after his reading in Saskatoon.

TK Fanboi (me): I really loved Green Grass, Running Water

TK: Oh, that's nice.

Fanboi: I mean, it has influenced the way I look at life. The way I write, what I think...

TK: *awkward*

Fanboi: I was thinking about applying to UGuelph for the MFA.

TK: Yeh, lots of people apply...

Random-girl-who-butted-in: I am a writer what do you think about my boobs...

Fanboi: *looks at boobs*

TK: *awkward*

...

Parts of that encounter may have been fabricated.

All in all, writers are weird and awkward and I don't like them. Maybe after a reading isn't the appropriate time to declare my love to TK?

Note to the young, don't go to readings, they will just break your heart.

From the looks of your vision (not to mention taste in books), you were obviously pretty drunk. I don't think you should have been driving, missy.
