I know I know, enough already

...with the redpolls! This is my favourite shot of the day

but it's not what I was out for at all. I've been hanging around the window for the past week with hopes of getting a good shot of a nominate Common, a Greater, an exilipes Hoary and a Hornemann’s all together like the lead pic in this excellent photo essay on redpolls. Waves of redpolls have been moving through with distinct differences in flock composition from day to day. A few days back a flock of redpolls showed up with what looked like several Greater and Hornemann's, some with pinkish white rumps. My chance! Of course a combination of snow and freezing rain thwarted my attempts to get adequate proof. The next day it wasn't snowing or raining, but that particular flock had moved on. Like last year, I did a google search thinking we can't possibly be the only ones seeing pink rumps. This time my search led me to this essay. A few pages in I came upon an apparent Hornemann’s with a blush of pink on its rump. Yes! Now to get a good shot. Who knows, I might already have one somewhere.

Nice photo anyway, and I'm sure you will keep on watching. I've to two Common Redpolls in the yard right now...they are looking quite a bit more at home than the two very, very cold Mourning Doves.

Good photo essay, too.

Thanks! Yep, still watching! Kind of jealous of all your snow!
