A Fox hole

...and the one that dug it just a few minutes ago.

The first Fox Sparrow of the season showed up on April 5. That's 11 days earlier than any record we have of their spring arrival in the 20-some years we've lived here. There are several digging through the fresh of snow today. The American Tree Sparrow and the Purple Finch also broke early arrival records for the yard by about two weeks. The robins are back as well. And yesterday I heard a Ruby-crowned Kinglet. I couldn't believe it.

April 8 - First Red-winged Blackbird of the spring showed up today. Another very early bird.
