I was so pleased to know about the prairie crocus that I immediately looked it up and -- guess what? -- it's other name is pasque flower. Isn't that amazing? Which means I have a prairie crocus in my garden! :D (I can't wait to give a piece to a prairie friend long since 'transplanted' in T.O.)
The funniest bit of all is that here, the thing is treated like an exotic specimen. I can't imagine a field-full!

This is the Prairie Crocus in its natural habitat. There are so many this year in places that it's nearly impossible to avoid stepping on them.

Ha! They're treated like an exotic specimen on the prairie, too, no matter how large the piece of land! Everything about them says spring.
