War Poet

...is a Canadian Forces Artist Project by Suzanne Steele, a writer I met a few years back. Steele is one of five artists nationwide to participate as a war artist in the 2008-2009 Canadian Forces Artist Program and the first poet to be chosen for the program. Hats off to her. What an incredible opportunity.

While I haven't got what it takes to be a war poet, I could be considered a cake poet. I like my cake. So when I was over at Animal Effigy today, I clicked on the link to Cake Wrecks. I must say I was shocked at what I saw. I dunno if I could eat that.

thanks B for the plug

oh I'm sure you'd do just fine sitting in the back of a LAV (light armoured vehicle) wearing 40 lbs of frag vest, helmet etc... with 7 young chain-smoking soldiers, eating dry rations and trying not to think about IEDs or how hot it is or how cold it is or...

actually, it's a fascinating experience, and as the army says... there's no life like it

Ha! I wouldn't last five minutes.

It would be fascinating though. I'll be following along. From my chair, that is. :)

I have no doubt you could eat any cake presented to you. You're just polite like that. *g*

Soldiers and cake are images with such polar opposition. You really are a poet :) Honestly though, kudos on being the first poet in this unique program; and even more kudos for the valiant work you're doing for Canada. Thank you.

actually, soldiers love cake... they eat and eat and eat... especially infantrymen, because sometimes they go days without... they also eat very quickly... in the mess tent, it's not unusual to see a plate filled with brownies, cake, pie, seafood salad, stuffed sole, pasta etc... and down it goes in about 2 minutes because any second now, some Sgt. is going to come in and say, "it's time to roll."

thanks guys
