...to my "Songs from the Stelcoat Barn." I missed the show when it aired, but Kelley Jo Burke, the spoken word producer and host of SoundXchange, sent me a cd of the poems. It arrived a while back. H listened to it when it came and gave it the big thumbs up, saying the readings and the sound effects were amazing. I knew they would be. So I decided to wait for the perfect day to listen to it. Today is that day. It's grey. Snowing. I'm in a mood I imagine is quite similar to the one I was in when I wrote the poems, later versions of which can be found in Cantos from Wolverine Creek. So I listened. And listened again. Ariel has described me as a northern mining town gothic poet, a description I love. And listening to "Songs from the Stelcoat Barn" makes me think she's bang on. Hats off to Kelley Jo! What a beautiful job. I'm totally thrilled.

Update: I failed to mention that the poems were read by an actor. I'm not sure who, but what an amazing job.

Wonderful! Kelley-Jo always does such a fantastic job.
She sure does.
I can list off the other terms, flattering and un, by which I describe you, if you want...
(It was nifty, wasn't it?)
Uh, no thanks. I'm pretty sure the readers of this blog have their own lists of terms for me...
(It was!)
I'm sitting here on the grey and green west coast trying to listen to your piece but it's not working (the link that is)... give me a clue as to how to find it...
have spent the morning reading Helen Humphries Lost Garden... very nice
b.t.w. I bought a perfect medieval feast dress if you want to borrow it...midnight blue velvet, silver belt
I don't think there is a link, at least not as far as I know. I think you had to listen when it aired. But people can check the SoundXchange site to see what it's all about and what's coming up. They have a blog too.
Thanks for the offer! Wow, that sounds like a stunning medieval feast dress! Alas, I won't be applying for the colony this year.
