I'm a huge fan

...of Guy Gavriel Kay, so it was a great treat to have my first coffee of the day while listening to this interview over at Bookninja. I especially like what Kay has to say about imaginative empathy, but it's his words about constraints that really hit home. That's largely because I spent the past few days working on a sequence of poems that I started last summer. The last poem happens to be an acrostic. Yes, an acrostic. I never thought I'd use that form in this manner. I must say I'm surprised at the result.

Guy Gavriel Kay will be at the Saskatchewan Festival of Words, which is coming right up. The festival schedule has been posted. I always have a tough time deciding who to see.

I really I wish I could go to the Festival this year. I love Guy Gavriel Kay, as you know. But between colony and Sage there are only three days to come home, see Trent, and do laundry, so that won out. *sigh*

Not to mention Dickens! By the looks of him, he'd have your hide if you went to the festival.

Speaking of sighs, I'm going to miss the colony this summer.

Just when I'm finally going?! Too bad, b.

Just kidding. I wanted to see if you had enough blood rage to kill me. I do want to show up at some point, though. Maybe next summer?

Ha! Very funny. Ya, next summer would be good. Plenty of time to come up with ways to get you back.

I'm thinking I would like to go this year...

Any Must Dos?

It would be great to see you there, Anita! The biggest must-do is booking accommodations. Otherwise there's so many must-dos, so little time. I think the songwriting workshop with Murray McLauchlan would be cool. Me and my ukulele could go far... :)

I would love to see B playing the uke with MM. Why, I'd even pay money for that, not much mind you, but some perhaps.

Here's my song:

M and B, on the ukulele, bring your coins, and come and see.

Uh, Tracy, maybe you should think about registering for that songwriting workshop, too...

I've got another one:

B's at the Brick---- House!
A little tight, just lettin' poetry hang out,

B's at the Brick---- House!

:-)

Ha! Yep, you really really should take that workshop.

I must say I'm excited about Fernie! It's coming right up!

Fernie-bound! Oh Fernie-bound. Ain't it good to be Fernie-bound?

I don't think I'll have enough material left over for the workshop.

Ha! You never cease to amaze me.

See you at the festival?

Saturday for sure, if I can get some tickets. They're sold out.

Brenda Schmidt said...

Good luck! Hope to see you there. I'm glad we bought passes ahead of time.

Ok, one more because I can (sung in the best Beatles imitation):

I don't need a job so I wanna be a po-et-ry writer, po-et-ry writer!

It's the gritty story of a gritty girl, she has no will and no one to understand, her words are formal and must take a twirl, but all she wants be is a po-et-ry writer, po-et-ry writer!

Of course, that one is about me. Ha!
