I must get my hands

...on this book.

I spent part of the day in the studio, preparing to tackle new work. I haven't used oils for quite some time and I wanted to see how one of my oil paintings from the last series had aged, but I couldn't find it. However, among the canvases I found a pair of paintings that I'd forgotten about. What a nice surprise. I have them in my office now. I think I'll live with them for a while.

I could use another painting to live with. I haven't had a new one for 22 years. (Hint, hint)

Has it been 22 years? I guess it has. Yikes.

Hill sounds like an interesting character, and, from the excerpts in the review, an accomplished poet. My impression is that, in his attitudes and style of poetry, he closely resembles Les Murray. Yes, I also must try to get my hands on Hill's book.

Thanks for that link, Pete. I'm not familiar with Murray's work. I'll make a point of checking it out.

Not really Murray, Pete. Hill's off in a field by himself, really. I love my uncle Murray's poetry, but Hill makes him seem like he's writing nursery rhymes.

I'm not sure about this new book, but much of Hill's later work (to this point) may be discouraging. You might want to start with his collected that went up to around 92. One of the best poems I've ever read in my life is in that book. "In Memory of Jane Fraser"

There are many people who didn't appreciate Hill's turn, but while I love Jane Fraser and her older cousins, I'm not among them.
