...predicament.
I spent very little time online today. One article I came across made me think of my photographer friends, another, specifically the bit about Tolkien, just made me chuckle.
I actually spent most of the day reading books. At one point I flipped through a monstrous stack of them, squinting, scowling and smiling at the various fonts. I decided I'm a serif kind of gal.

That's cause you've got little things hanging off your Ts.
Oh my.
I wouldn't say they're hanging.
Now that's a VERY private joke...
I should say. Cover your I's!
You people are disgusting. I was not in that gutterish headspace when I wrote that.
Which is as much a surprise to me as it is to you, but the truth.
I wouldn't say we're disgusting. We all know there's nothing disgusting about serif fonts. Speaking only of novels and poetry collections here, those "little things hanging off your Ts," as you put it, make for a comfortable reading experience, whereas the sans serif versions make my eye very uneasy. I'm swayed by the claims that serifs aid reading. I think that's very true for me. Perhaps sans serif is a perfect match for unsettling or innovative text. I dunno. It certainly would not suit my work.
I find your work both unsettling and innovative, but I couldn't see it in sans. So your argument doesn't hold up.
Mmm.
I find I prefer sans serif fonts like Arial Narrow and Verdana as body text fonts - I find Times and the like outdated and, well, ugly.
That said, I'm not a font monkey...
I know nothing except where the keys are and that my fingers are attached to them most of the time.
Oh, I know B's work is awesome, whatever font it's in.
Reminder to self:
1. Give Tracy a quarter for that kind comment.
2. First, fine Ariel a quarter for not only putting the words "font" and "monkey" in such close proximity, but for suggesting that I might actually be one.
Ok, G. Tell me why neither of us think sans serif would suit my work.
Ariel, I understand that fonts can fall out of fashion just like platform shoes or banana seats, but what is so ugly about serifs?
I don't know, they just make me feel...funny.
(This is what I REALLY meant by the 'font monkey' comment...unlike some design and layout folk I've worked with over the years, many of whom went so far as to collect - and furiously discuss the relative merits of - fonts, I can't quantify what I mean by 'funny'.)
