Let's have a little chat

What a *wonderful* video! No "ers" or "ums"--you're so articulate and at ease. And interesting, let's not forget interesting.

I read Ed's blog every day too--I agree; it's a great blog.

I have a journal too (not a moleskine) but it's absolutely not pretentious, although it may be silly; it's an Olivia-themed one. My sister loses her patience with me, but what can I say--I'm a hopeless sucker for Olivia. I have all the Olivia books plus the journal and some notecards.

Have you any money left after that shopping spree? (Doesn't that sound just like a Mom?)

Tracy Hamon said...

Bingo!

(I say this because of the way You-Tube loads, and I was doing some other things on the computer, turned the sound low, and every now and again your voice would resound from the speakers (mumble, mumble (because the sound is on low) (under the b 12)), just like playing bingo on tv all those years ago.)

Yay pouch! ^^

Very nice. I liked the part about Brick having nice paper.

Ha! Thanks Amy. Nice of you not to mention all the "so" and "anyway" and typical Brenda quirks. :) As far as content goes, only regular readers would know which Bringhurst book I was talking about. I should add I didn't say who recommended the book because it came out of a private chat, not from a public forum, and I'd like those chats to continue. And I mention Ed's blog, but not the name of the blog. I could go on.

Part of the reason I decided to do this video relates to an email I received from a friend the other day, saying she'd like to see pics posted of my office. I replied saying that wasn't likely. As it is, I don't let anyone in here but the cat and sometimes H, so this video is as close as it will get. It shows very little, really, but still...

Olivia is cool! I'm not familiar with Olivia.

Mom! Ok ok. I admit, it is pretty obvious that I have a book habit.

You can tell Tracy and I have been friends for a while. When I talk, all she hears is a mumble reminiscent of Charlie Brown's teacher.

Thanks Rhett. Uh, are you making fun of my paper moment? Brick uses incredibly nice paper in their books.

Or I could've just said I made a number of booboos...

I wasn't really making fun of you. I do think that you have an incredible dry sense of humour--even when you don't realize you are being funny. But, I am still not laughing at you. :)

Ha!

Deadpan gets a person into all sorts of pickles. :)

My ruled lines have been spurned. SPURNED!

Brenda Schmidt said...

Ah, spurn schmurn. As I've told you before, G, I've long used ruled notebooks and will continue to do so, so the ruled Moleskine is perfect. However, I require a plain, unlined book this spring for a specific purpose since sketching will be a big part of it. I owe you for introducing me to these. They're so compact. The perfect size to carry around. I was told they were selling briskly at Christmas at McNally, so I hope they keep them in stock. I didn't see them at first because they weren't with the other journals. They had their own display stand on the other side of the circular checkout, not somewhere I generally look.

I also failed to mention that I learned of the Steven Pinker books on Zach's log, which I troll regularly. I'm happy to say the pages in my copy of How the Mind Works are in the proper sequence.

Anonymous said...

So much for my theory... My copy was bought for me at Book Warehouse--sneaky publisher offloading unsaleable books. It's actually the third time I've encountered a book with sequence issues. The first was a novel, Saramago's _Baltasar & Blimunda_ and it was missing pages right at the frikking end. And I was in Resolute bloody Bay when I got to it, so I had to wait weeks till I could trade the damn thing in for a good copy. The other one was in a Marshall McLuhan book, and I'm not convinced it wasn't intentional...

One of these days I'll get around to updating that log.

Brenda Schmidt said...

Ha! Thankfully that's yet to happen to me. I'm sure the whole neighbourhood would hear screams if I were short pages at book's end.

Looking forward to that update. I've been checking.

Thanks for the chat, Brenda. Nice to hear your voice. Re. missing pages: an article in the Globe and Maill reports that a heartless vandal in Richmond BC had been going through the public library removing the last pages from paperback mysteries (G & M, may 16, 1992; I keep these things).

Brenda Schmidt said...

Heartless, indeed! That's terrible.

That's from 1992? I bet you have quite the stockpile of clippings, Leona. You must have a good filing system to be able to pull that titbit out. I seriously need a system.

Deadpan humour gets me into all sorts of problems too; I didn't realise it when I was younger, and that led to no ends of difficulties with my in-laws . . . .

Brenda Schmidt said...

Ha! Maybe I can get some of those in-law stories out of you at Talking Fresh. Sounds like a perfect coffee and cookie conversation. I do hope there will be cookies...

Edward Willett said...

Hey, that's my blog!

Hey, that's my book!

Gee, I'm blushing here. :) Thanks for the mention.

Nice clip. But your desk looks tidier than mine, which makes me insanely jealous of your obviously superior organizational skills.

Brenda Schmidt said...

Ha! I'm far from organized, though I do spend an inordinate amount of time lining up the spines of my dictionaries and thesaurus, wondering why the thesaurus is 1/2 inch shorter and then wondering why I even have a thesaurus since I rarely ever look at it. I'm a dictionary person.
